Museological Nucleus of Macinhata do Vouga
Located in the municipality of Águeda, it sits at the old coach house at Macinhata do Vouga Station, on the Vouga Line, the only narrow-gauge railway still in operation in the country.
The permanent exhibition tells us the story of this line that, until 1990, connected the towns of Viseu and Espinho, including the connection of the Aveiro branch line.
The exhibition stands out for the presence of several vehicles of national design and manufacture - built between 1940 and 1947 at the Sernada do Vouga Workshops. These vehicles are a reminiscence of the history and memory of Vale do Vouga and its community, associated with the railway identity and culture to this day.
Amongst the various vehicles and objects that can be discovered at the Macinhata Centre, items such as the National Railcars ME 51 and ME 53, also called “Auto Rails” are worth highlighting, built from “Panhard” truck chassis.
